Smiling sprinter

Sullivan senior William Newby is all smiles before the start of the Western Indiana Conference track and field championships on Thursday.

 

 

BRAZIL - William Newby, Chase Catlin, Luke Padgett and Luke Adams teamed up to win the 400 meter relay at the Western Indiana Conference boys track and field champions on Thursday at Northview High School.

The Sullivan foursome were clocked at 43.99 seconds.

Newby also ran second in the 100 and 400 and took third in the 200, the event he finished eighth at the IHSAA state meet last year.

Seb Ortiz tossed the discus 117 feet and 12 inches, which was good for third place.

Jack Stewart overcome problems with his grip to finish third in the pole vault. His best effort was 10-6. Catlin was fifth in the same event at 9-6.

Northview won the team title with 136 points. Edgewood was second and Sullivan took fifth with 58 points.

The boys will run at the Terre Haute South Sectional on Thursday, starting with the field events at 5:30 p.m..
