DUCS girls basketball team

The Dugger Union varsity girls basketball team includes seniors Madison Kinnaman and Stormy Kinnard; juniors Jackie Smith, Keira Bledsoe, Landree Frazee and Avery Dayhoff; sophomore Brae Simpson; and freshmen Ashby Murray and Abagielle Cliff.

DUGGER — Lindsay Adams begins her second season in charge of the Dugger Union varsity girls basketball team.

The Lady Bulldogs posed a 3-5 mark a year ago.

“It was a struggle at times last year with COVID,” said Adams, who played college basketball at Oakland City University. “We didn't get to play half of the games we originally had scheduled.

“Even though we had to postpone our first game with North Knox, we are hoping to play a full schedule this season.”

During preseason practice that was not a given.

“We’ve had different girls come and go,” said Adams. “We had some girls quit and at one time we were down to five girls.

“Right now, we have nine players. We are trying to make sure everybody has their 10 practices in before they can start playing.”

Stormy Kinnard, a senior forward, led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring at 12 points per game last year. She just missed averaging a double-double as she grabbed 9.8 rebounds per game.

She also averaged 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

“Stormy will be an important part of what we accomplish this season,” said Adams, who will have husband Will Adams and Cali Hale as her assistant coaches. “Stormy had to deal with some injuries last season.

“We are hoping that she can stay healthy this season.”

Juniors Jackie Smith and Keira Bledsoe are returning players as well as sophomore Brae Simpson.

Also playing for the Lady Bulldogs are senior Madison Kinnaman, juniors Landree Frazee and Avery Dayhoff and freshmen Abagielle Cliff and Ashby Murray.

“Because of numbers, we will just be playing a varsity-only schedule,” said Adams. “We eventually would like to get enough girls to have a JV team too, so that our younger kids could gain more playing experience.

“We are just hopeful that we can stay healthy and play all of the games on our schedule. We want to have a good season to build on as we go back into the IHSAA and play in the sectional in 2022-23. Everybody associated with the program is looking toward that.”
