TERRE HAUTE — For the second time this month, Northview defeated Sullivan.
In the third-place game of the First Financial Bank Wabash Valley Classic Thursday night, the Knights topped the Golden Arrows 64-52 at Terre Haute South.
“This is not the way we wanted to end this tournament,” Sullivan boys basketball coach Jeff Moore said after losing the final two games to finish 2-2 at the Classic. “We were happy to have a chance to play a fourth game in four days, but I thought we were fatigued at the end, no doubt about it.
“We were missing threes that we normally would make.”
Sullivan had 14 of its 19 turnovers in the first half, and trailed 26-25 at intermission.
“We had a lot of mental mistakes,” said Moore. “We had a lot of turnovers, many of them unforced.
“We got lost on defense. There were two or three times where nobody was guarding them at the 3-point line.”
Northview, who beat the Arrows at Sullivan 67-58 on Dec. 2 in a Western Indiana Conference game, only committed four turnovers, none in the first half.
Their other advantage came at the foul line. The Knights made 19 of 23 free throws, compared to 4 of 8 for SHS.
“We struggled to make free throws throughout the tournament,” said Moore. “We put them on the line too many times and they made us pay.”
Northview outscored Sullivan 38-27 over the final two quarters.
Dylan Hiatt paced the winners with 16 points. Center Drew Lumsdon made 6 of 6 free throws and tallied 14 points. Brigham Booe, who had 22 in the first win over Sullivan, scored 13 points. Braydon Tucker also had 13 points.
For the Golden Arrows, Trey Powell had 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Evan Conner and Ty Drake each scored nine points.
