Casey Gettinger

Casey Lee Gettinger, 39, Sullivan, passed away June 3, 2021.

He was born July 28, 1981, at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, to John

R. Gettinger and Marsha (Monk) Kennedy. Casey was a 2000 graduate of

Sullivan High School and was employed as head cook at Kat-A-Korner. He

had recently completed training to become a Certified Recovery

Specialist and was working at the Wabash Valley Recovery Center as a

designated Community Health Worker where he had the ability to use his

own addiction struggles to help other’s overcome theirs. He attended

Maryland Community Church and Kingsley United Methodist Church when he

was younger. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at his family’s farm

and helping others. Casey was a friend to many and was loved by all

who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, John D. and Evelyn

Gettinger; his grandfather, John Richard “Dick” Monk; and one uncle,

Leslie Monk.

Survivors include his companion, Kattie Mataya; his parents, John R.

(and Polly) Gettinger and Marsha Monk Kennedy (and Paul Hoffner); his

grandmother, Laura Joyce Monk; two brothers, Jason and Cody Gettinger;

one sister, Katelynn Kennedy; two nieces, Jaci and Sherri Gettinger;

one nephew, Owen Gettinger; two uncles, Tom (and Nancy) Gettinger and

Dan Gettinger; several cousins; and children whom he claimed as his

own, Mataya Welch and Hayden Adams.

Visitation is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. June 12, 2021 at Holmes

Memorial Chapel with services to celebrate his life starting at 4 p.m.

Pastor Eddie Hammond will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can

be made in memory of Casey Gettinger to the Wabash Valley Recovery
