Sheriff Cottom narrowly defeated by Crystal the Pigeon

Zoey Swalls and her pigeon, Crystal, both in middle, defeated the

Sullivan County Sheriff's Department duo of Sheriff Clark Cottom,

left, and Chief Deputy Jason Bobbitt, right, in the 2nd annual pigeon

race at the Sullivan County 4-H Fair on Monday.

Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom and Chief Deputy Jason Bobbitt

once again took on a feathered friend at the Sullivan County 4-H Fair

at the fairgrounds on Sunday.

However, Crystal the racing pigeon narrowly emerged victorious over

the deputies in the 2nd annual pigeon race.

The Sheriff did his best to explain the loss, claiming that the

officers got railroaded (twice) … and they got behind a really slow

driver … plus the sun was in their eyes. The Sheriff went on to say

that winds were out of the southwest, so Crystal most likely had the

benefit of a tail wind.

Zoey Swalls, the pigeon's owner and a first-year 4-H member,

confidently predicted the outcome of the contest.

In the end, the officers once again had to buy milkshakes for the winning team.

Next year, the officers plan on taking a backroads shortcut to the

pigeon roost, the sheriff hinted.
