Boil order in effect for Shelburn water customers

As a result of a water main break occurring on Saturday, the Shelburn

Municipal Water Utility has issued a boil order at 9 a.m. Monday for

the entire system for approximately two days.

In the boil order, SMWS apologized for any inconvenience this has

caused, but certain precautionary measures are required by the Indiana

Department of Environmental Management’s Drinking Water Branch.

IDEM requires all public water systems to issue a Boil Water Advisory

when a significant drop in pressure occurs in the distribution system.

Please follow the instructions below:

• Immediately after your normal water pressure is restored, flush your

internal plumbing untilclear water flows from your faucets.

• Boil water for one minute prior to consumption.

• This advisory remains in effect until 48 hours after the time issued

unless notified otherwise.

• It is recommended that all water used for drinking, cooking and oral

hygiene be brought to a full boil for a minimum of one minute. It is

not necessary to boil water for other uses.

SMWS stated they will notify customers through Reach Alert when the

order is lifted.
