To wrap up the 2019 Summer Reading Program, the Sullivan County Public
Library is partnering with Meier Winery & Vinyard to host a “Galaxy
Gala” on July 13 to close out the summer’s space-themed events.
In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing,

“So far, the Summer Reading Program this year has been a massive
success,” said SCPL Director Jordan Orwig. “The variety of programming
this year is as varied and dynamic as I’ve seen it in recent years,
with events ranging from an escape room, movie screenings, special
presenters and more. This final experience will be the perfect way to
cap things off.”
The “Galaxy Gala” will take place at Meier Winery & Vinyard, located
at 4251 N. SR 63, with doors opening at 6 p.m. There will be drinks
provided by the winery, food from Petty Pit Stop and jazz music from
an Indiana State University ensemble. Ingredients will also be
available for attendees to make s’mores around a campfire.
Finally, at nightfall, local astrophotographer Dean Stringer, whose
photos have been published in Sky & Telescope Magazine, will lead a
presentation and discussion on astronomy, with a telescope being
available for use.
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and must be purchased in
advance by July 8 at either the Sullivan County Public Library or the
winery. All proceeds from ticket sales will support SCPL children’s
programming events. The ticket price covers the cost of food,
entertainment and one flight of wine. Attendees must be 21 or older.
