Ladybirds open with a win
FARMERSBURG — North Central exploded for 11 runs and eight hits in the fourth inning as the Ladybirds defeated visiting Eminence 14-2 on Tuesday night. The game was halted after five innings via the 10-run rule.
It was the season-opener for the Ladybirds, who were the Class A softball state runner-up in 2018.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” said North Central coach Erica Arnold. “It was good to start off with a win.
“But our base running was not very good and we have to play better defensively. (Erika) Shroyer had a pretty good outing.”
Unofficially, North Central had 12 hits, including a triple by Shroyer, two doubles by Kaylee Moody and doubles by Morgan Manning, Brooklyn Klitzing and Hannah Simmons. Shroyer also had two RBIs and scored once.
Madison Schofield had two hits and scored twice.
Simmons drove in one run and scored one.
Moody finished with four RBIs and two runs.
Manning had two hits, scored one run and knocked in a run. Klitzing collected with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Sophomore catcher Arica Enochs had a sacrifice, RBI and run scored.
Shroyer allowed two hits and two runs. She struck out three and walked none.
“I don’t remember us missing a bunt,” said Arnold. “Eminence is an improved team.”
North Central will not play again until March 28 when they travel to Brown County to face the Lady Eagles, starting at 5:30 p.m.
