Sullivan Daily Times opens internship application
The Sullivan Daily Times summer high school internship program is now open for applications at the Times office, located at 110 N. Main Street.
The program will begin June 11 and run through July 27 and will provide local sophomore, junior and senior students the opportunity to explore a career in journalism and media.
Students will be expected to work up to 10 unpaid-hours each week with the intent to allow interested students who attend a Sullivan County school to experience a job in the newspaper field, according to the program description.
Students selected as interns will undergo necessary training by observing the editorial staff during the first two to three weeks.
After completing training, interns will then be assigned reporting tasks that include photography, event coverage, writing articles and assisting with other general work necessary at a small-town newspaper.
Interns who successfully complete the program will be able to utilize the Sullivan Daily Times as work experience and personal reference on their resume and receive a letter of recommendation that can be used for scholarship, college or job applications.
Interested students must complete an application, along with a 250- to 500-word, typed personal statement describing why they are interested in journalism and media; what they hope the internship will do for their future career plans; and why they think they are the best candidates for the position.
The Times must receive the application and personal statement no later than 4 p.m. Friday, March 30, which can be mailed to P.O. Box 130, Sullivan, IN 47882, emailed to email@example.com or dropped off at the Times office.
