County Council approves 2013 budget
The Sullivan County Council completed its review process and approved the 2013 general budget at its monthly meeting Tuesday.
All seven council members were present in approving a total operating budget of $6,440,415.
Some of the larger line items approved included the county’s Economic Development Income Tax ($526,021), ambulance ($849,477), local roads and streets ($194,000), 2015 reassessment ($237,120), aviation ($131,328), cumulative bridge ($492,576), highway ($2,524,764) and Sullivan County Statewide 911 ($212,140).
In new business, state riverboat funding of $72,360.70 to the Sullivan County Highway Department was approved, pending advertising.
Also, an appropriation request of $9,202.53 to the Treasurer’s Office for corrected tax bill expenses was placed on hold.
Transfers approved included the Sheriff’s Department ($516.67 for a 2012 edition criminal and traffic law manual), Circuit Court ($200 from maintenance/repair to travel, $100 from law books into new equipment) and Cemetery ($3,500 from various account into labor contract).
In old business, additional appropriations — Highway Bituminous ($296,000) and Sullivan County Statewide 911 ($125,000) — were officially approved.
Both items were approved in August, but there was an error in the dates in the advertisement. The state required a new advertisement and redo the approval.
Next month’s meeting will be at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 30. Meetings are normally scheduled on the fourth Tuesday, but October’s meeting was moved to the fifth Tuesday due to schedule conflicts of council members.
